Artist Statement
I am an artist and craftswoman and photographer, celebrating both nature and humanity in a quest for eternity. My gesture begins with gold — an ancient material, born from the stars, present on Earth since its creation. A metal that has "seen" everything, crossed time, and continues to reflect the memory of the world.
Trained in photography, applied arts, and graphic design, I have always placed great importance on the intelligence of the gesture. I began with image-making, working as a portraitist, before seeking to restore meaning to photography by applying gold to it. That process led me beyond the frame, toward volume, space, and a direct relationship between light, matter, and movement.
My practice is shaped by my Flemish and Fulani roots, and also by my daily paddle journeys through the mangroves of the Indian Ocean. There, I observe the shifting reflections of water, the feathers, the scales, the silent rhythms of the living world. These organic forms have become the foundations of my visual language.
Rather than decorating, I seek to inhabit space. In my work, gold is not simply applied — it radiates, it tells a story. I have developed personal techniques, without varnish or artifice, allowing light to express itself freely. I work with natural materials, sometimes derived from seashells, in a way that is mindful of both environmental impact and the health of artisans.
Each creation — whether a wall piece, suspended sculpture, or precious object made in collaboration with French and Luxembourgish artisans — is designed to restore meaning to the object as a bearer: a bearer of stories, of memory, of transmission. My art is an attempt to preserve, through material, what deserves to endure — and to speak across time to future generations.
I also develop live performances, where the artistic gesture becomes ritual. These suspended moments allow the public to witness the birth of the work in a sacred temporality. Through the sharing of slowness, precision, and light, I invite a reconnection with inner presence and wonder.
What drives me deeply is the desire to build bridges between the visible and the invisible. To reintroduce contemplation, stillness, and awe in a world overwhelmed by speed and production. Through gold and gesture, I seek to transmit a message of permanence — one that honors sacred nature, reconciles humanity with itself, and keeps alive an immaterial heritage for generations to come.
Humankind has always reached beyond its limits, striving to explore the unknown. That is why I also dream of an art capable of accompanying humanity beyond Earth — works conceived to inhabit new spaces, extend our memory, and carry with dignity what is most precious in the worlds to come.
