Marie De Decker in Wonen360 — Africa Legacy Brussels
Wonen360 features Marie De Decker’s installation Further Than Here, presented in Africa Legacy, Berceau de l’art at Espace Vanderborght in Brussels.
Published on 4 September 2026, the article examines the sculpture’s open circular structure and the spiral movement running through it. The recurring motifs of feather and scale connect air and water, the enduring and the ephemeral. Recovered fishing nets, marked by their time in the ocean, are held within a 24-carat-gold filigree that gives these traces a new presence.
The feature also considers the dialogue between the artist’s Flemish and Fulani heritage, bringing together the precision of lace traditions and gold as a medium of memory and transmission. It includes a critical perspective by architect, curator and art critic Agathe Anglionin, who describes the moving line of the textile as a language capable of crossing cultures and borders.
