MARIE DE DECKER IN HISTOIRE DU MOBILIER NATIONAL
Following a private visit to Marie De Decker’s Paris showroom, Sandrine Zilli devoted a portrait to the artist’s practice for Histoire du Mobilier National.
The article traces the gradual transformation of gilding within her work. Gold no longer appears as a finish applied to an existing support. It becomes line, structure and a means of shaping the relationship between matter, light and space.
Through suspended sculptures, open filigree forms and works connected to the vocabulary of textiles, Marie De Decker extends inherited techniques through experimentation. The gestures of gilding remain present, but their scale, function and relationship to the surrounding architecture are transformed.
The portrait also considers the place of natural forms within this research. Repeated motifs of feathers and scales form non-hierarchical structures that evoke growth, circulation and the interdependence of living systems.
This publication accompanied an important stage in the development of the artist’s sculptural practice, shortly before her individual presentation at Révélations 2025 at the Grand Palais in Paris.
