Marie De Decker at the Biennale De Mains de Maîtres – Three Major Works Presented in Luxembourg

During the 2025 edition of the Biennale De Mains de Maîtres in Luxembourg, Marie De Decker presented three major works, marking a significant moment in her artistic journey within one of the most respected events dedicated to contemporary craft.

With over 14,000 visitors, the biennale once again confirmed its role as a leading platform for artisans, designers, and creators whose work bridges tradition and innovation. Held in Luxembourg and supported by the country’s cultural institutions, the fair brings together craft excellence from across Europe, offering a space where technique, heritage, and contemporary creation meet.

Three Works at the Heart of the Exhibition

For this edition, Marie De Decker selected three central works that embody her research into light, material, memory, and the relationship between the human hand and the living world.

Among them, “Linceul” stood out as a monumental piece.
This four-meter work, created from recycled fishing nets and fine gold, explores the connection between life, transmission, and the organic traces we leave behind. Its suspended, wave-like structure evokes both fragility and permanence, inviting viewers into a reflective and almost meditative experience.

The two other works presented — each rooted in natural materials and handcrafted techniques — continued this same dialogue between the precious and the ephemeral, highlighting the artist’s unique approach to gilding, pattern, and spatial composition.

A Presence in Dialogue with the Theme “Singular Nature”

The 2025 biennale centered on the theme “Singular Nature”, providing an ideal setting for Marie De Decker’s work. Her pieces, inspired by ecosystems, rivers, mangroves, and ancestral crafts, resonate with the idea that nature is not only a subject but a partner in creation.

Her use of biosourced or recovered materials, combined with leaf gold applied entirely by hand, aligns with the biennale’s commitment to honoring craftsmanship rooted in respect for matter, time, and human heritage.

A Recognition of Contemporary Craftsmanship

Being part of De Mains de Maîtres places Marie’s work within a network of exceptional artisans and creators selected for their mastery and their singular voice.
Her participation with three major pieces is a recognition of her place within today’s craft revival — one that values authenticity, innovation, and the deep intelligence of the hand.
